Gum Treatments
Comprehensive care for healthy gums and overall oral health.
Overview
Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. Our periodontal services diagnose and treat gum disease at all stages, from gingivitis to advanced periodontitis.
Benefits
The Procedure
Treatment ranges from professional deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) to advanced periodontal surgery. We use minimally invasive techniques and laser therapy when appropriate. Maintenance visits every 3-4 months help sustain healthy gums.
Aftercare
Excellent home care is crucial. Brush twice daily, floss daily, and use prescribed mouth rinses. Attend regular periodontal maintenance appointments. Avoid tobacco products.
Expected Results
Early treatment of gum disease can completely reverse gingivitis. Advanced cases require ongoing management but can be stabilized to prevent progression and tooth loss.
Frequently asked questions
- What are the signs of gum disease? +
- Bleeding when brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, receding gums, loose teeth, or pockets of pus. Early gum disease (gingivitis) is reversible; advanced disease (periodontitis) is manageable but not fully reversible.
- How often should I have my gums cleaned? +
- Healthy patients: every 6 months. Patients with a history of periodontitis or on immunosuppressants / diabetes: every 3–4 months. We personalise the interval after your first assessment.
- Is scaling painful? +
- Regular hygiene scaling is generally comfortable. Deep scaling (below the gum) uses local anaesthesia and is well-tolerated. Sensitivity to cold for a few days afterwards is normal.
- Can gum disease cause other health problems? +
- Emerging evidence links chronic gum disease with cardiovascular disease, diabetes complications, and pregnancy outcomes. Treating gum disease is not purely a dental question.
- Do I need gum surgery? +
- Most cases respond to deep scaling and better home care. Surgery is reserved for deep pockets that don’t heal, or for aesthetic corrections. We exhaust non-surgical options first.
